For people who lost money with stocks over these last couple years as a result of the banking and real estate disasters, the idea of investing again can be daunting (assuming, of course, that you have money left to invest.)  While many Americans have researched in excruciating detail the companies they selected to invest with via the stock market, the reality is that most did not and, consequently, did little more than invest in a piece of paper labeled "stock" – and the results of this haphazard investing style suffered as a result.

In the wake of countless scenarios such as these, there has developed a growing desire to invest in something tangible that has passed the test of time, having been used throughout countless cultures and eras.

The first such entity to come to mind is usually gold. Indeed, this is the tangible metallic investment of choice; but unfortunately the cost (about a thousand dollars at the time of this writing) renders this option unrealistic for many investors.

This is where silver com Investing in Silveres in. Silver is much more affordable and, like gold, provides the investor with a tangible asset which never falls to zero – unlike its paper counterparts in the stock market.

Historically, silver has been used in coinage, and the majority of investors usually purchase their silver in the form of Silver Eagle dollars or Morgan and Peace Silver dollars. In fact, for more than four thousand years, silver has been regarded as a form of currency. The beauty and historic value of these coins (with the Morgan coins in particular) adds a tremendous amount to their holder. Actually holding a physical item in your hands which is a hundred or more years old creates a unique sense of the long-standing worth of these pieces. Plus, silver coins can easily be divested with a coin collector or at many jewelry stores.

Interesting fact: in 1964 silver lost its role as legal tender in the United States when its intrinsic value exceeded the face value of the coins! What other investment vehicle can you say that about?

As with any investment, it's important to remember that the price of silver has been volatile at times and can fluctuate between industrial and store of value demands. But the security of investing in a hard asset whose value should increase if the dollar falls in value is something to consider.
